BODi App
Designed this 9-platform app experience used by over 3 million paid subscribers
The experience spanned web, iOS and Android mobile, TV (Roku, Apple TV, Android TV and Fire TV), a stationary bike tablet and an Apple Watch app. It was available in 5 languages.
My role was a hands-on, player/coach, and I managed a team of designers and researchers.
Launched new platforms, such as a bike tablet
The bike had a 21.5” screen and the embedded app connected with the bike hardware to show stats like cadence, speed and calories burned. The app offered live news streams, live interactive workouts, scenic rides, and a huge library of cycling workouts.

Led full platform redesigns, such as a redesign of our TV apps
We did a full redesign and unification of Beachbody’s 4 TV apps, adding a number of new features such as search, favorites, and gamification, and creating a TV-specific Design System.
Launched countless cross-platform features, such as search
A search feature included workouts, programs, recipes, and physical products. This project challenged us to think through how to ideally prioritize content, how to enable filtering, and how to group content intuitively into categories.
Created community to support health journeys
This platform enabled users to track activity, share progress, and support one another. We designed both the participant and community manager interfaces.
After the launch, our NPS score for the product rose from -20 to 50. Active communities grew 4x to around 45,000 and total active users grew from around 100k to 400k.
Overall, 6 million participants have used the platform.
Designed live video experiences
Users could use their camera to capture their own video and potentially appear in the background of a workout video (see the phone with the landscape orientation). In a separate feature, users could also comment and reach in live video with a trainer as well (see the phone with the portrait orientation).
Envisioned an AI chatbot
This chatbot asked you multiple choice and free-form questions about your fitness preferences then would recommend a fitness program.
Helped users ‘jump back in’ to their favorite programs
Users spent most of their time following P90X, Insanity and 130+ fitness program, and we saw that following a program was correlated to retention.
So we designed a module to encourage users to follow programs. Upon launch, this cross-platform module accounted for about 50% of all home screen interactions.
The app has been awarded with honors such as Best Workout App by CNN. Users have streamed over 20 million minutes of video.
